Virgin Media appoints Tony Hanway CEO of Ireland operations


Virgin Media today announces the appointment of Tony Hanway as CEO of its operations in Ireland.

Tony has held a number of roles with Telefonica across Europe, including CEO of O2 in Ireland, Consumer Director of O2 in the Czech Republic and, latterly, Chief Commercial Officer of O2 in Germany. Prior to joining O2, Tony held senior roles at AOL Europe including Managing Director AOL Europe Operations Ltd and Vice President AOL UK. He was Chairman of the Irish Telecom and Internet Federation between 2013 and 2014.

 

Tony joins on Monday 19 October and, following a short transition with Magnus Ternsjö, will take up the role and join the VM Executive Committee from Monday 2 November.

 

UPC Ireland became Virgin Media earlier this month and launched its first Mobile deal for consumers. Subject to regulatory approval, the Company has also agreed to acquire TV3, the largest commercial broadcaster in Ireland.
