Entrepreneurship from across Ireland and the UK represented in Virgin Media Business VOOM 2016

One of Ireland’s and some of Britain’s most colourful and cutting edge entrepreneurs gathered in London to celebrate business creativity in the Virgin Media Business VOOM 2016 competition.

One of 70 entrants from Ireland, GolfBirdie is a NEW application for golfers intent on giving it their best shot providing a birdie’s eye view of courses all over the world.

GolfBirdie, founded by childhood friends Dean Tobin and Dean Douglas-Evans, both 25, features high definition tee to green flyovers filmed using drones.

Perhaps unsurprisingly Dean Tobin is a professional drone pilot, while Dean Douglas-Evans previously worked as an operations manager, travelling the world with Disney on Ice.

Dean Douglas-Evans, from Dublin, says: “GolfBirdie is the stroke saver of the modern era. It means players can check out courses in detail before the game, which is hugely beneficial to their performance. After a round players can revisit the holes they found difficult or easy while they’re chatting in the bar.”

Based in Dublin, GolfBirdie will launch this summer with dozens of courses available to view. They will include the stunning Oceanico Faldo Course in Silves, Portugal, and the Royal Course, Vale do Lobo, also in Portugal. The founders believe the sky’s the limit for their application.

Dean says: “We charge courses a fee to appear on the app. We will also be able to monetise the traffic to the site via advertising and payment of green fees.”

The co-founders have entered the app in Virgin Media Business VOOM 2016, Ireland and the UK’s biggest pitch competition. To find out more visit vmbvoom.com.
