The Angry Birds Movie 2 And More Playthings Brought To Life On Screen

Angry birds 2

Launching themselves at pigs with impunity, it didn’t take long for Angry Birds to take over our mobiles – and there wasn’t much delay before they’d moved beyond just being our pocket pals, too! In fact, they’ve had outings on screens far, far larger – and you can see how successfully they’ve made the transition in The Angry Birds Movie 2!

The super sequel is available to rent now on Virgin Movies from €4.99 – but it’s far from the first time that we’ve seen playthings pivot towards the big screen. Whether their origins are in the toy box or a board game, we’ve chosen a few that really stand out…

PLAYMOBIL: THE MOVIE

Available to rent now on Virgin Movies from €4.99

Given that the source is all about being innovative, it’s hardly surprising that the big screen outing for the miniature marvels is as inventive as it gets! The secret weapon is in the blue-chip talent assembled; from Jim Gaffigan and Daniel Radcliffe to Meghan Trainor and Adam Lambert, it’s a selection of stars determined to have all the fun they possibly can – and it’s infectious!

BATTLESHIP

Available to rent now on Virgin Movies from €2.99

OK, so the board game doesn’t seem like it would lend itself to a cracking movie – but think again! Stuffed with explosive action and high-octane excitement, it’s a seafaring spectacular just made for a popcorn-munching night on the couch. Straying from the steady strategy that defines the original has never been such a good idea…

THE LEGO MOVIE

Available to rent now on Virgin Movies from €3.99

The building blocks were there for generations (geddit?!), but it took more than 80 years for the legendary Danish toy to make the big-screen leap; thankfully, it was worth the wait! With a belting soundtrack, awesome animation, super-sharp script and a surprisingly clever story, it’s colourful fun for all the family – now where have we heard that before?!

TOY STORY 4

Available to rent now on Virgin Movies from €4.99

OK, so these guys weren’t actually real-life heroes before they got the Tinseltown treatment – but we’re not leaving them off this list! In fact, the contents of toy boxes all over the planet were seen in a whole new light after Woody, Buzz and co first made an appearance in 1995, and the most recent instalment suggests they’re going to remain firm favourites for many years to come!
