DDoS Protection Service
Prevention is better than a cure
We can help you to protect your business from a Distributed-Denial-of-Service (DDoS attack) by having threat prevention services in place to deal with it.
Virgin Media Business’ DDoS Protection Service stops DDoS attacks against your business and ensures that services remain available to you and your customers. When the protection is activated, the system constantly analyses the data stream for anomalies. If an attack is detected, the data stream is diverted by our threat management system. This ensures that businesses can keep malicious traffic out while letting clean legitimate business traffic in.
Becoming a Virgin Media Business Enterprise customer means you have 24/7 support for, not only the DDoS protection service, but also the underlying internet service we provide for you. You can rest assured that your business is in safe hands.

The techie bit
What is a DDoS attack?
The aim of Distributed-Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks is to limit the availability of websites, computers or entire network segments and even to bring them to a complete standstill. In general, two types of DDoS attack can be identified. Sophisticated DDoS attacks target a weak point in the application layer. The attack requires little bandwidth and can be identified and prevented by the customer using appropriate protective mechanisms. A DDoS brute-force attack is generally based on the network layer and is carried out by several dispersed computers (botnets).
How does the DDoS protection service work?
If the protection is activated, the system constantly analyses the data stream for anomalies. If an attack is detected, the data stream is diverted by the threat management system (TMS). The TMS are found in the so-called “scrubbing centres” within the Liberty Global network. In the scrubbing centres, the data stream of the attack is separated from the desired data traffic. After this separation process, the clean data stream is transferred to its target so that the customer can continue to do business.
Already have a firewall?
A firewall will only start protecting your site when the attack is hitting it. Your firewall has a limit, eventually your firewall will fall over. The 3 parts of effectively security are:
- DDOS Mitigation
- End Point Security
